Our Process

Pick fresh, quickly frozen, then freeze-dried to lock in the great taste and nutrients.

What's Freeze Dry? And why?

Freeze drying, also known as lyophilization, is a process used to remove water from a substance while preserving its structure and properties.

Freeze drying is particularly advantageous because it retains the original shape, size, color, flavor, and nutritional content of the material. The process allows for long-term storage of perishable goods without the need for refrigeration, as the removal of water inhibits the growth of microorganisms and enzymatic reactions that can cause spoilage.

How freeze-drying works:

1. Pick πŸ‘Œ

Pick fresh, wash thoroughly, then send to our factory.

πŸššπŸ’¨

2. Freeze πŸ₯Ά

Rapidly freeze ingredients at a temperature below -30℃.

(Brrrr!!)

3. Dry (☝️)

The first round of drying is called sublimation. This causes the frozen water within the food directly transitioning from a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid phase.

4. Dry (✌️)

The second round of drying is called desorption. After most of the water has been removed through sublimation, any remaining bound water molecules are removed by raising the temperature slightly. This helps to ensure that all the water is eliminated, preventing potential spoilage or degradation of the freeze-dried product.

5. Pack πŸ“¦

After undergoing two drying processes in this large machine, approximately 98% of the food's moisture is drawn off at temperatures as low as -50℃. Our treats are now ready to be sealed in moisture- and oxygen-proof packages to ensure freshness until they are opened.

6. Enjoy πŸ˜‹

When you open the package, you will smell the aroma of the food itself, and you will realize how fresh and tasty it can be. If you rehydrate the food, it will revert back to its original appearance. While you can eat it, please remember that you actually bought it for your dog/cat!
